There are many incredible comedy movies to learn from. Comedy movies improve the way you try to imagine and deal with situations (often serious). If you are a comedian or a beginner who wants comedy as a career, then this article is for you. I’m going to describe comedy films every comedian should watch.

There is a vast number of comedy movies available. But when it comes to comedy films to learn from, there are few where the comedy craft is top notch. Only a few films are genuinely comedy masterpieces.

1. The Jerk

The Jerk is an American movie released in 1979, directed by Carl Reiner. This was Steve Martin’s first opportunity to get a role in a feature film. The Jerk also featured M. Emmet Walsh, Jackie Mason, Mabel King, Dick Anthony Williams, Rob Reiner, Larry Hankin, Helena Caroll, Bill Macy, Richard Ward, Ren Woods,  and many more.

This film has the best box office collection at that time, which was over 73 million dollars domestically.

2. Knocked Up

Knocked Up is a movie released in 2007 starring Seth Rogan, Katherine Heigl, and Paul Rudd. This is a hilarious movie about a couple, a one night stand, and the consequences that follow.

The story follows a party monster named Ben Stone, who was expecting to get a one night stand. Suddenly, a girl comes to his doorstep to say that she is pregnant. This is a perfect film to watch during the lockdown.

3. Shaun of the Dead

Shaun of the Dead was released in 2004 and was directed by Edgar Wright, written by and starring Simon Pegg, Edgar Wright, Nick Frost, and Kate Ashfield.

Shaun of the Dead is a story about a guy who wants to regain his ex. Suddenly, an apocalypse happens that includes zombies. Shaun tries to be the hero for his ex while keeping his best friend. It’s an amusing take on Zombie movies.  

4. The Hangover Series

The Hangover movies are the funniest movies I’ve ever seen in my life. The film features stars Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, and Ed Helms. This movie is about three friends who always go for away on trips that end up seriously wrong in every way.

There are three movies in the series that initially take place in the U.S. and expand to other countries. Anybody who is planning a trip with friends should watch this movie.

5. 40 Year Old Virgin

This is a movie starring Steve Carell, Catherine Keener, and Paul Rudd. It was directed by Judd Apatow and written by Judd Apatow and Steve Carell. This movie is about a guy who is 40 and is still a virgin.

He tries many ways to lose his virginity, but it almost always goes wrong. It’s a hilarious look at a funny, awkward situation to be in and the desperation that we find the lead character in.

6. Anchor Man

This is a movie directed by Adam Mckay. The film was written by Will Ferrell, Adam Mckey, and stars Will Ferrell, Christina Applegate, and Steve Carell. This movie is about the best news anchor in the 1970’s. The story has many ups and downs when an ambitious woman gets hired as an alternative anchor.

There are comedic twists and funny punch lines throughout mixed with serious dialogue. This is the kind of movie you need to watch regularly to influence your creative juices.

7. Coming to America

Coming to America, a movie was released in 1988. John Landis directed this movie. Eddie Murphy and David Sheffield wrote it. The film features Eddie Murphy, Paul Bates, and Gracelle Beauvis. This a movie about an African Prince who travels to Queens, New York, to find a wife. This movie includes hilarious dialogue and also has a fantastic concept filled with funny moments.

8. Monty Python and the Holy Grail

The Holy Grail of Comedies. Monty Python was directed by Terry Gilliam and Terry Jones in 1975. It was written by Graham Chapman and John Cleese. The movie featured Graham Chapman and John Cleese.

This movie is about King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table and their quest for the Holy Grail. There are tons of funny quips from the director and dialogue which were written spot on. Everyone should watch this movie for the most comedic roles played by the actors of Monty Python.
