Comedy Podcasting vs YouTube

In today’s time, this battle between podcasting and youtube has become more and more relevant. But as a Comedian, should you start a Comedy podcast or a Comedy Youtube Channel.

People have had controversial beliefs regarding this topic of interest but I am here to give you all a clear picture of how both of these work and which platform is best for you as a Comedy Podcaster.

As a producer of comedy content, it matters less to you where and in what form you publish your content. But both of these, Comedy Podcasts and YouTube videos have their own merits and demerits. In the end, it all matters how you get people to watch your content.  Now let us move a step ahead, talking about how Podcasting wins over YouTube

How Comedy Podcasting Is Better Than YouTube

According to reports, there are over 31 million YouTube channels while there are a meager 0.8 million Podcasters. Some might interpret this as more scope in the Podcasting field while some may say that the Podcasting field has not yet developed and that it is risky to enter this field.

Here are some things in which comedy podcasts beat YouTube.

1. Comedy Podcasts Can Be Consumed Anywhere

Podcasts are flexible in their nature due to their format and distribution system. One is able to consume the content of a podcast at any place. It matters less if you are at home, work or gym. You simply have to listen and laugh!

It is a big win for you as a podcaster because here you have got more people to listen to you.

It is difficult for one to extract the content from a YouTube video anywhere, anytime because of its visual representation. Your access to YouTube is limited.

2. Multiple Platforms

Your Comedy Podcasts can be shared on multiple platforms. If you are unable to succeed on one platform then you can rely on the other.

Also people are able to find you more easily while on YouTube you become hard to find because too many people push content here. Y

you have to have really good content to be able to get recognition on YouTube. Another worry for the YouTubers is that you have to rely on a single platform.

3. Podcasts Are Listened To In Any Situation

One can listen to a podcast in any situation whether it is cooking, walking, eating or exercising. While YouTube videos are more comfortably accessed, when you have access to screen.

4. Podcasts Can Als Be Uploaded To YouTube

An audio podcast can be easily converted into an audio podcast using an app like Headliner. On the other hand, creating an audio podcast from YouTube video is relatively difficult because a video depends on visuals.

How YouTube Wins Over Podcasting

Although Podcasts have some valuable advantages, there are some limitations to Podcasts. So before deciding on how you are going to showcase your content you need to have a clear picture of the limitations of Podcasting.

1. No Visual Aspect

A visual aspect plays a crucial role. It helps in grabbing the attention of the viewer. In podcasting there is a high chance that the listener of your jokes might get distracted and misses out on the content in the podcast.

This aspect makes YouTube highly favourable. This is one area where Podcasts have become less popular. But, still I think that Comedy podcasts have a high demand.

2. Difficulty Setting Up

The minimum setup required for any type of podcasting is a microphone, software and a hosting site. Also it takes nearly 3-4 days for iTunes to accept your podcast. While in case of a YouTube video you can easily upload a video within minutes. Also the minimum setup required for you to create a video is a decent smartphone.

This is another area where podcasting lacks behind YouTube videos.

3. The Industry Hasn’t Fully Developed

Although the existence of podcasting tracks back to longer time as compared to YouTube videos, companies have not invested much in the development of this sector. If people had the right intent  then we could have seen better growth in the industry.

The comment section that seems to be normal for the YouTube sector has not yet been witnessed in Podcasting.

4. Shareability

Although podcasts can be shared on various platforms but some platforms are only accessible by iOS users and not Android users. This makes keeping a track of episodes difficult. Listeners may just miss an episode which was not accessible for them.

These were some specific merits and demerits to the use of podcasts. YouTube being around us for a long time and having a mainstream audience has had various other benefits also.

YouTube utilizes an algorithm that directs viewers to view your content. In this way you have a good chance to raise your viewership. This will increase your audience and help you gain recognition.

There is no such algorithm used in podcast apps, this restricts your audience. The only way you can gain organic traffic is by people searching for your podcast and your podcast showing up in search results.

This doesn’t seem to be any easy. You need to be very good and have to get your name out in the world. Then only can you expect some decent amount of traffic directed towards your podcast.

Another aspect where YouTube has attracted content is MONETIZATION. A YouTube channel needs 4000 watch hours and 1000 subscribers to get monetized. No doubt this is not easy but this is straightforward monetization.

If you achieve this you are definitely going to get monetized. But no such thing is there with podcasts. There is no such rule which determines what is required to get monetized.

We have discussed in quite detail the merits and demerits of both Podcasts and YouTube. Now it depends on you how you want to go about it.

Why Both Are Great For Comedy Content

If you don’t want to show off your face or you don’t come up with good expressions, then you should not start a Youtube channel as in a Youtube video these two things are very important.

If your voice is good and you can add some variations in your voice, then comedy podcasts should be your first choice as this is all any comedy podcaster needs.

If you are going to start a Youtube channel, then I would like to tell you one thing that might change your mind. Youtube has a lot of competition, not only in the comedy field but also in other fields so it might be tough for you to rank higher.

While, podcasts are not that competitive but if you create quality content by your heart, you are going to win.

Do you want to go the traditional way or will you go the less traveled path? Ether one will be work but it depends on how you want to share your content. While there is no right or wring answer their is an answer that is right for you and your content.
